Overview of Procedure
A femoral-femoral crossover is undertaken due to unilateral iliac disease, and is often done in tandem with iliac angioplasty/stenting and/or femoral endarterectomy.
This involves dissection of the common femoral artery bilaterally and its bifurcation into the superficial femoral artery and profunda artery. These are slung and clamped where the artery becomes healthy again, with the artery opened longitudinally and the atherosclerotic plaque excised from the arterial media.
A graft is then tunnelled from one femoral artery to the other and the anastomoses are conducted bilaterally.

Blood clots | DVTs and PEs are a possibility in any operation.
