Gastric Disease
format_list_bulletedAbout this section add remove
The stomach is an intraperitoneal digestive organ, located between the oesophagus and the duodenum. It has a J shape, with a lesser and greater curvature, and peritoneal attachments with the greater and lesser omentum.
Hiatus hernia, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer are all conditions of the stomach that present routinely to surgical departments, either acutely or electively. Whilst Upper GI surgeons will see the majority of this work, in non-specialist centres, these conditions can still present as emergencies, therefore it is essential all general surgeons know how to deal with these conditions.
